Spring 2012 Enrolled students: To check in to the course you must Open, edit, save, and then email to me this entire  Initial Contact Form  anytime between January 8 and January 14, but no later than the first day of your course (Feb 23 or Mar 13). I create grade sheets from rosters on Jan 9, so if you mail early, do not expect a response until those sheets are done. I do not work during the intersession holidays. Pay attention to dates on the form as I drop No-shows on the second day of any class session.

I may issue a few permission-numbers to serious-minded, wait-listed students who contact me using the above Initial Contact Form the first few days of class. Student receiving permission numbers-to-add must pay for the course upon enrollment (the day you enroll!!!).

If you enroll with no intention of completing the class, you are denying another student of the ability to succeed in a course, which they need for work or transfer.

Have some integrity. Do not enroll!!!!!  Causes for Failure in my classes – Doing nothing or very Little

Spring 2012 -   Students enrolled in CISA308, CISA310, or CISA311 should have Microsoft Office 2010.

The course texts are written for Microsoft Office 2010. If you have an older version… upgrade.

Office 2010 is the update from Office 2007.  There are significant differences, especially for CISA311 students.

For CISA308, CISA310, & CISA311 enrolled students only, the bookstore now has Microsoft Office Academic Professional 2010 (three licenses Version) for $99.99 plus tax.  If not on hand, they can get it for you in three days. Students planning to take Database courses: CISA320/321 (Access 2010) will need Office Professional 2010

Be sure to look through the links on this page. You need to be aware of texts, using D2L, My no-incomplete/extension policy, the generic syllabus and your specific course syllabus or syllabi.

There may be important links within your syllabus. Check them out. Those who just print the syllabus may miss information which helps them succeed in the class.

How To Succeed in Your Online Class

One student’s PowerPoint on how to succeed in my classes.

Due to severe budget cutbacks, I may not be able to accommodate many Waitlisted students. In the past we were budgeted for growth. To show productivity I (and others) overfilled classes. We added sections. Now we find ourselves in a reverse position where we have cut back on class offerings and limit the cap on class size. Currently Folsom Lake College is over cap. That means we are teaching a large number of students from which we are not receiving funds from the state. Therefore there have been and may continue to be cutbacks in the numbers of classes offered, more stringent control of the numbers of students in class, and cuts in support staff and services. There is hopefulness for future improvement. Students on the waitlists are hoping others drop, but they are not dropping. Students have come to expect permission-to-add numbers as we were growing. But faculty are now under mandates, not to lower class size, but to limit expansion.  To this end there are marches and rallies to try to bring the issue to California's governing officials. We must have an educational system that provides a doorway to basic skills, workforce development, and transfer to higher education. If you are impacted by these cuts make your voice heard to your elected representatives.

Welcome to my home page: I'm personal, approachable, and responsive. I will do the best I can to help insure your success Please maintain some regular contact with me via phone, e-mail, or a visit. I always fret about the many on-line students that take too long to get started and although they paid their money, seem to have no interest in finishing what they started. As a student, you have the responsibility to comply with the requirements given in the generic and specific course syllabi which will allow you to complete your course in a competent and timely manner.  Again, if you enroll with no intention of successfully completing the class, you are in effect denying another student of the ability to succeed in a course that they need. Have some integrity. Do not enroll.
