Library Services for Persons with Disabilities
Folsom Lake
College Library is committed to providing access to library materials and
services to all students. Library staff is available to assist library
patrons whose disabilities limit their use of the Library's facilities and
resources. If services are needed beyond those listed, or if you have
questions or suggestions, please contact Rebecca Mendell, Public Access
Services Librarian, at (916) 608-6708 or
mendelr@flc.losrios.edu.
Disabled patrons requiring more extensive assistance or who routinely need
additional help using the library may be referred to
Disabled Students
Programs & Services
(DSP&S) for better accommodation. Students may contact DSP&S prior to
visiting the library to arrange for the assistance necessary to make the
most effective use of library resources. For more information, contact DSP&S
at (916) 608-6611.
Assistive
Technology
Disabled Students Programs & Services offers assistive technology
available in Room 152, located in the Computer Lab. Use of this room and
assistance with assistive technology must be coordinated through DSP&S.
Library & Computer Lab staff cannot checkout this room to patrons or assist
with adaptive technology.
Computers/Study Areas
Computers on height adjustable tables are available in the Library next to the Reference Desk.
Two study carrels with height adjustable tables are also available near the
reference desk. Priority is given to disabled students. If the station is
occupied by a non-disabled patron, please come to the Reference Desk for
assistance.
Emergency Procedures
The Library is concerned with the safety of persons with disabilities. In
the event of a library evacuation, staff conducts a sweep of the entire
building advising all patrons that an evacuation is in progress. Disabled
students will be assisted, if necessary, to the nearest exit. Procedures
concerning the proper evacuation of persons with disabilities are located in
the Folsom Lake College Emergency Procedures Guide, available at the
Reference Desk.
Library Handouts
The Library provides instructional handouts on various library services and
instructional materials. Please contact Rebecca Mendell (916) 608-6708 or
mendelr@flc.losrios.edu for details on obtaining these materials in an
alternate format.
Library Instruction
If you require any special accommodation during a library instruction,
please notify either your instructor or James Telles (916) 608-6528 or
tellesj@flc.losrios.edu at least one week prior to the instruction you
are attending. Drop-in library instructions are also available throughout
each semester. Click here for a full detailed
schedule.
Parking
Folsom Lake College provides spaces which are designated for use by disabled
persons who possess a valid DMV placard/license plate. A current validated
DMV plate/placard must be properly displayed along with a Folsom Lake
College long term or daily parking permit to park in the disabled parking
spaces.
Photocopying/Printing
Library and Computer Lab staff can assist disabled patrons with the use of
the copy and print stations. For special copy and print needs, please
contact DSP&S at (916) 608-6611.
