The most recently published edition of the Ethnologue database is Ethnologue: Languages of the World, 16th Edition. The language data from the sixteenth edition is presented in this searchable web version.

    Glossaries: One of the most comprehensive subject indexes covering over 2,200 dictionary links and multilingual resources selected by Frank Dietz, who holds a Ph.D. in English-German, ATA-Accredited Translator (English-German).

     

    Internet Public Library: This site houses a powerful context search facility with a massive database (currently over 707 million words) containing multilingual novels, technical literature and translated texts. Hits are highlighted in context windows that can be expanded up or down. To go to the source web pages (novels, etc.) click on the title - to run a dictionary search click on the highlighted word or phrase.

     

    Japan Information Resources: A database of links to Japan-related information sites on the web, provided by Stanford.

     

    Language & Translation Center: Jim Martindale's reference guide to indigenous languages of North America, English and other languages, including links to sign language and braille. An excellent directory of links to language guides including vocabulary and pronunciation keys.

     

    Latin American Pamphlet: "Harvard's Widener Library is the repository of many scarce and unique Latin American pamphlets published during the 19th and the early 20th centuries. One of the few institutions to have consistently collected Latin American pamphlets, Harvard has benefited from collections formed by Luis Montt (Chile), Nicolás Acosta (Bolivia), Manuel Segundo Sánchez (Venezuela), José Augusto Escoto (Cuba), Blas Garay (Paraguay), Charles Sumner, John B. Stetson and others. Chile, Cuba, Bolivia and Mexico are the countries most heavily represented in this collection."

     

    Library and Internet Resources for Foreign Language Research and Studies: The Florida International University Libraries presents sources of study for languages including Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Haitian Creole, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Latin, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish.

     

    National Science Foundation: The NSF has developed a site on language and linguistics throughout the world. This site has special reports on speech, language learning, language change, dialects, endangered languages, and sign languages.

    Best German Websites: Designed and maintained by Jim Becker, Professor Emeritus at the University of Northern Iowa, this website brings together a multitude of links pertaining to German Language and Culture.

     

    German Studies Web: This site provides links and resources including newspapers, Library Catalogs, and other German Subject Resources.

    Spanish:

    Bibliotecas Para La Gente: The Northern California chapter of REFORMA, National Organization to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking. Special links to reviews of Spanish and English language books and media. Plus, search engines in Spanish and English.

     

    Cuban Internet Resources: This site is "a searchable collection of Internet resources published in Cuba. It is a work in progress. New sites are added weekly. Currently as of April 21, 2008 there are over 3800 web sites in the directory. Sites can be searched by keyword, name, title in English or Spanish, publisher, URL, and other fields. They can also be searched using subject headings from the Library of Congress or the National Library of Medicine."
