Mathematics Departments Policy and Procedure for prerequisites:
Policy:
All courses (except math 20) require a prerequisite. The perquisite for the course can be satisfied in one of the two ways listed:
1. Student takes and passes prerequisite course or it’s equivalent
2. Student assesses into the course via placement exam (self placement not excepted) or places into an equivalent course via assessment exam.
Procedure:
1. All students who have taken and passed the prerequisite course in the district with a C or better will automatically have their prerequisite verified. No further action is required by the student.
2. Student who have taken an equivalent course can fill out an equivalent course form. A list of equivalent courses along with appropriate forms can be found using the following link . Equivalent courses
3. Student can asses into the course via assessment exam or assess into an equivalent course via assessment exam. Assessment scores from colleges on the equivalent courses list are accepted. The Mathematics Department at Folsom Lake College does not accept self placement exams. A list of equivalent courses along with appropriate forms can be found using the following link . 4. For student who do not satisfy the prerequisite in either of the three ways listed above there is a challenge process. The process along with required forms can be found using the following link. Challenge process and form The challenge form must be turned in no later than the first week of instruction for the semester in which the challenge is being made. Challenge forms shall be turned into either your instructor of record or the mathematics department chair. Student will be notified of decision within 5 business days. Challenges can only be denied by a committee of two or more members
