Challenge form for Mathematics Prerequisite

 

Grounds for challenge shall include those grounds for challenge specified in Section 55201(e) of Title 5:

Any pre-requisite or co-requisite may be challenged by a student on one or more of the grounds listed below. The student shall bear the initial burden of showing that grounds exist for the challenge. Challenges shall be resolved in a timely manner and, if the challenge is upheld, the student shall be permitted to enroll in the course or program in question. Grounds for challenge are:

(1)          The prerequisite or co-requisite has not been established in accordance with the district's process for establishing prerequisites or co-requisites;

(2)           The prerequisite or co-requisite is in violation of this Article;

(3)           The prerequisite or co-requisite is either unlawfully discriminatory or is being applied in an unlawfully discriminatory manner;

(4)          The student has the knowledge or ability to succeed in the course or program despite not meeting the prerequisite or co-requisite;

(5)          The student will be subject to undue delay in attaining the goal of his or her educational plan because the prerequisite or co-requisite course has not been made reasonably available;

(6) Such other grounds for challenge as may be established by the district governing board.

Before filling out the challenge form, make sure you read all the information above. Grounds for a challenge do not include:

a)I am a really good student and need to take this class

b)This is the last class I need before I transfer

c)The assessment exam did not appropriately reflect what I know.

d)I took the pre-requisite in high school

e)I know I can do well in the class.

 

To make a challenge you must specify which number above you are challenging. Attach the supporting documents for your challenge. If you do not specify the basis for your challenge, your challenge will not be considered. You must fill out the challenge form completely and correctly:
