Prerequisites: Minimum “C” or better in Math 120 (Intermediate Algebra) or assessment.
Proof of necessary prerequisite is required for continued enrollment beyond the FIRST week
of classes.  If you do not have your pre-requisite by Monday, August, 28, you will be
dropped from the course.

The Course:   This is a five-unit course that meets for 5 hours of lecture each week.  Credit
for this course is degree applicable and transferable.  This course is designed to prepare students
for Pre-Calculus (Math 370) and eventually the Calculus series. Course content includes a brief
review followed by an in-depth extension of the properties of polynomial, rational, exponential,
logarithmic, and trigonometric functions. Additional topics include systems of linear and non-linear
equations and inequalities, conic sections, sequences and series, binomial theorem, analytic geometry,
vectors, parametric, and polar equations. A graphing calculator is not required for this course but I
will model some functions using graphing technology.

Classroom Expectations:
You are expected to behave in a courteous manner both toward your classmates and me at all times.
Profanity is unacceptable.  If you must enter or leave the classroom at any time during class, please
do so without disrupting the rest of the class.  I do not allow any electronic devices such as cellular phones,
pagers, headsets, etc. in the classroom.  If you are behaving in a manner that inhibits me from teaching or
anyone around you from learning, you will be asked to leave.  Smoking is not allowed at all when at the
High School Campus.

Attendance:
FLC policy states that you may be dropped after missing 10% of the class meeting time.  If
you have missed this much class time, you may be dropped from the course at my discretion.

Grading:                     Letter grades will be calculated based on the following overall percentages:

  A:  90% - 100%  B:  80% - 89%   C:  70% - 79%
  D:  60% - 69% F:  below 60%

Scores will be weighted as follows:

  Exams and Quizzes 60%
  Homework 15%
  Final Exam 25% Wednesday, Dec 20th   5:45pm – 7:45pm

Homework:    Homework will be collected each Wednesday at the beginning of class.  No late work
will be accepted
.  You should complete each day’s assignment before the next class meeting.  It will be
extremely difficult to keep up with the class if you do not.  All work should be done in pencil and stapled
in the order of the assignments.  Label the assignment by writing your name and assignment number on the
top right hand corner of the page.   Graphing paper will be required for some assignments.

Exams and Quizzes:  Exams will be given approximately every 4 weeks.  We will attempt to quiz at least
once before each of the exams.  Make sure to have pencils with you for taking exams and quizzes.  All exams
will be announced but quizzes may not be announced.  Come prepared.  Quizzes and Exams may not be
made up
.  You may use the final exam to replace one of the regular exam scores. The final exam will be cumulative.

Academic Integrity:
Cheating will be punished swiftly and severely.  If you are caught cheating on an exam, you will receive a zero on
the exam and not be allowed to replace your score or take any kind of makeup.  Further, you will not be allowed
to submit any extra credit work. I will complete paperwork to ensure that there is a record of your dishonesty.

When you are taking a test, it is your job to cover your work so that no one else can see what you are doing.
Keep your eyes on your own paper and make it abundantly clear to me that you are working alone.  I may
assign seating during tests or ask you to change seats during exams.  During an exam, you should not speak to
anyone other than me.  You may only have materials approved by your instructor on your desk.  All notes and
electronic devices are prohibited.

Resources:      Your classmates are your best source for assistance.  Make a point of meeting with some of
them on a regular basis to help fill in missing gaps in your knowledge.  Take advantage of my office hours and
there may even be tutoring in FL2 beginning soon.  Don’t wait too long to get assistance.

If you have any special circumstances that I need to be aware of, please let me know immediately.
