COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

This course is a hybrid course.  We will be using the MyMathLab for the online support.  As this is a five-unit course that meets for only two hours per week, the remaining instructional time is via online instruction and reading of the book.  The objective of this course is to instill good mathematic fundamentals that will allow you to succeed in your subsequent algebra courses.   As with any other five-unit course, you should expect to spend 10 hours per week outside of the five hours of class on homework.

5 tests worth 100 points each

Exam over Chapter 6 (December 5th)

All written homework is to be handed in during the class session in which we take the exams.  Online homework must be completed by the exam day as well.  Late online homework will not be graded.  Written homework scores will drop 25% for each day it is late.

EXAMS:

5 exams will be given in class as outlined in the above homework section, CALCULATORS MAY NOT BE USED EXAMS. You will have one opportunity to either make up an exam that you have missed or attempt to better your score.  The make-up exam will be held during our regular class meeting on Tuesday, December 12th.  You must sign up for the exam you wish to makeup in advance.  Please note that the score of the make-up exam will replace the score earned previously.    There is a mandatory final exam to be given on Tuesday, December 19th from 8:00 to 10:00 am.  The final exam will be cumulative.

QUIZZES:

10 online quizzes will be given throughout the semester.  In general quizzes will be given weekly over the prior weeks assigned topics.  The quizzes will be made available Friday at the end of the week and you are able to access the quiz through the following Tuesday.  The quizzes will consist of ten questions and you will have one opportunity to take each quiz.  Please make sure that you have completed your homework before attempting to take the quiz.  If you fail to take the quiz during the specified time allotment, a zero will be recorded for you score.  Quizzes cannot be made up for any reason.

CLASSROOM POLICIES:

Appropriate behavior is mandatory at all times.  This includes being in class on time, treating everyone with respect and courtesy, and refraining from profanity.  Cell phones and pagers must be turned off.  If you are late for class, enter the classroom quietly and do not cause a disruption.  I strongly encourage a participatory environment, but in order for everyone to feel free to contribute, you must treat your fellow students with respect.  Inappropriate behavior may result in loss of makeup privileges.

Any student caught cheating will receive a zero on the assignment and will not be allowed to take a make-up exam.
