Catalog Description: This course covers the production of Web pages, including formatting, layout, construction, and presentation. A current markup language such as XHTML, is used to format Web pages. Students may also use a Web authoring tool to create Web pages.
Course Objectives – At the end of this course, students will be:
Plan the layout and format of a Web page.
Evaluate content needs and apply appropriate formatting and layout techniques to the creation and modification of Web pages.
Create Web pages using a current markup language, such as XHTML, and/or Web authoring software.
Assemble one or more completed Web pages into a Web site, and upload them to a Web server using File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
Evaluate design enhancements.
Course Structure – this course requires reading assignments and completion of hands on exercises to be completed utilizing a personal computer. This course also includes a final exam (content to be determined). It is the responsibility of the student to be aware of any published instructions that will cause the class to deviate from the content or objectives defined in the class syllabus.
Online Course - The requirements for the online course are the same. You are responsible for submitting a storyboard and developing a web site. You'll be using the book and the notes on this website to guide you through the course. At the end of the semester, all students will present their website to their classmates as a final exam. Any student in the online course is welcome to attend any of the regular lecture sessions. Please see the schedule below for the topic being presented (schedule will be updated as needed).

Software - The software used for this course will be Microsoft's Expression Web. You are free to use another editor if you wish, but the book and the class examples will be from Expression Web. This software is available for your use in the classroom and in the PLE. If you wish to purchase this software for home use, I recommend you take advantage of the agreement between FLC and the California Community College Foundation (see www.collegebuys.org). This software can be purchased for approximately $70.00 through this alliance. See instruction for details.
