Folsom Lake College
Veteran's Affairs

Home About Contact

The Veterans’ Affairs office at Folsom Lake College is primarily responsible for administration of veterans educational benefit programs. We encourage veterans attending FLC to contact our office in person or by telephone with any questions they may have pertaining to their education, or any of their VA educational benefits. Students eligible to receive VA benefits should contact the FLC VA certifying official prior to registration to assure timely submission of their claim.

Using the latest technology available, the Veterans’ Affairs office processes claims electronically to the Regional Processing Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma for payment of benefits.

Who We Serve
  • Students who were on active duty and contributed to the “Montgomery G.I. Bill”
  • Active Duty Personnel attending FLC and using the “Montgomery G.I. Bill”
  • Members of the active Reserve and/or National Guard
  • Disabled veterans retraining through VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Education program
  • Eligible dependents of 100% disabled or deceased veterans

Application Steps for each Chapter:
Chapter 30 - Students who were on or are on active duty and contributed to the “Montgomery G.I. Bill”
Chapter 31 - Disabled veterans retraining through VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Education program
Chapter 35 - Eligible dependents of 100% disabled or deceased veterans
Chapter 1606 - Members of the Active Reserve and/or National Guard
Chapter 1607 – Students who were activated after September 11, 2001

How to Apply for Benefits:
Veterans and dependents who want to receive VA benefits must fill out a Request for Certification each semester at the A&R Office. The request form should be filled out and turned in as soon as the student has registered for classes. New and new transfer students must also complete the FLC Veterans Affairs Entrance Form and the VA Prior Credit Report.

Average Processing Times – The average time for VA Muskogee to process an Original Claim is 8-10 weeks. The average time for VA Muskogee to process a Supplemental Claim is 6-8 weeks.

Transcripts – Evaluation of Prior Credit – Each veteran and dependent must have official transcripts sent to FLC from ALL colleges, universities and other training institutions that he/she has attended. Your enrollment will not be certified until all transcripts have been received.

Military records – All veterans must submit his/her DD214 or NOBE to the A&R office.

CAUTION:
Short-term classes: Veterans/Dependents are cautioned when enrolling in short-term classes. The VA will only consider your enrollment for the actual days in the short-term class, not for the entire semester.

W grades: The VA will not pay educational benefits for courses from which you have withdrawn, unless the VA determines that there are mitigating circumstances.

Variable unit classes: Variable unit classes may affect your status as full-time/part-time students since the VA will only pay for those units after the class has ended (initially, they pay for the least amount).

Name/Address Changes: Please update your name and address when they change to the FLC Admissions & Records office and the VA office.
